Find a role that fits your week

Every role comes with a full induction, ongoing support from a named coordinator and out-of-pocket expenses paid.

Group Leaders

Group Leaders help run our social groups, such as our Walk, Talk and Be Healthy group and our craft group. You will set up each session, welcome participants and keep attendance records, and help create a friendly atmosphere where people feel comfortable taking part. The role suits someone organised and reliable who communicates well and is happy working alone or as part of a team. We ask for a minimum of two hours a week, with days and times depending on the group. Training is provided, and a DBS check is required.

Admin Support

Admin Support volunteers help keep our teams running from the CAVS office in Benfleet. The work includes keeping records up to date on our databases, contacting clients and enquirers by phone, email or in person, carrying out research and helping with general office tasks. Some administrative experience and familiarity with Word and Excel are useful, and training on our database can be provided. We ask for a minimum of two hours a week, with days and times agreed at interview. A DBS check is required.

Befriender

Befrienders offer regular companionship and support to people across Castle Point, Rayleigh and Rochford who are isolated or need a little extra help. That might mean home visits, accompanying someone out in the community, or keeping in touch by phone or letter, depending on what suits you and the person you are matched with. We ask for a minimum of two hours a week on a regular basis, with hours arranged around your availability. Good listening skills, patience and a sense of humour are more important than experience. Full training is provided, and a DBS check is required.

Family Peer Mentor

As a Family Peer Mentor, you will work with children and their families to help them resolve current difficulties and develop ways of coping in future. You will offer practical and emotional support, act as a steady and trustworthy presence, and point families towards other services where needed. Some mentors also help run Emotional Wellbeing groups in schools. The role needs a minimum of one hour a week, by phone or face to face, and reliability matters, as consistent contact makes a real difference to the families you support. Full training and supervision are provided, and an Enhanced DBS check is required.
